The Bay Area is fortunate to have some of the most scenic public golf courses in the country. And there's a course for every type of golfer. Here are a few of my favorites.
1. Half Moon Bay Golf Links β Ocean Course
πHalf Moon Bay, CA
If you're only playing one course on this list, make it the Ocean Course at Half Moon Bay Golf Links. The layout runs along dramatic coastal cliffs with breathtaking Pacific Ocean views throughout the round.
To make the most of the experience, spend a night at the Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay. Take a walk along the coastal trail, enjoy dinner overlooking the ocean, and turn your golf trip into a weekend getaway.
2. Presidio Golf Course
πSan Francisco, CA
Tucked inside the Presidio, this course feels surprisingly secluded despite being located in the heart of San Francisco. Towering eucalyptus trees line the fairways, and you'll catch glimpses of the Golden Gate Bridge throughout the round.
It's one of the few places where you can play a challenging golf course while still feeling connected to the city.
3. The Links at Spanish Bay
πPebble Beach, CA
The Monterey Peninsula is home to some of the world's most famous golf courses, including Pebble Beach Golf Links. While Pebble Beach is a bucket-list experience, it can get expensive.
Spanish Bay offers a fantastic alternative with stunning coastal scenery, firm links-style conditions, and a memorable golf experience that's slightly easier on the wallet.
1. Mariners Point Golf Center
πFoster City, CA
One of the most popular and convenient courses in the Bay Area, especially for beginners and golfers looking to squeeze in a quick round.
The course is short, so leave the driver in the bag. Think wedges, short irons, and sharpening your short game. The waterfront setting and relaxed atmosphere make it a local favorite.
2. The Hay
πPebble Beach, CA
Designed by Tiger Woods, The Hay is one of the most beautiful short courses you'll ever play.
Located next to Pebble Beach Golf Links, every hole is thoughtfully designed and incredibly fun. It's the perfect addition to a Monterey golf trip and proof that golf doesn't need to be 18 holes to be memorable.
3. Fleming 9 Course
πSan Francisco, CA
Located at TPC Harding Park, Fleming 9 offers a great way to experience one of San Francisco's premier golf facilities without committing to a full round.
The course is approachable for beginners while still providing enough challenge to keep experienced golfers entertained.
