Consistency is the key, and it gets a lot easier when you’re not doing it alone. Training with a team or even just having a friend sign up for the same race – adds that extra push. On the days you feel lazy, you still show up because someone’s counting on you (and you don’t want to be the one who flakes).
If you’re naturally self-motivated, that’s honestly the best-case scenario – you don’t need anyone or anything to push you. If you’re not, that’s normal too. Having a training partner helps, and so does scheduling your training a few months out so it feels real.
A lot of people sign up for a race before they even overthink it, and that deadline becomes the motivation. Once you start showing up consistently, the routine feels less like effort and more like default. It gets easier from there.
